Amazing Thai was, well, not Amazing. Good, yes, and perhaps the most amazing Thai restaurant space in the cities. But the food was lacking the something that makes it amazing. The space is quite cool and not unexpected for a heart of uptown restaurant. I think you need to have that to survive there. Our spring rolls were good, but not excellent. I really did enjoy the Golden Pumpkin which was basically a battered and deep fried pumpkin pieces. Really quite tasty and a unique starter. My Green Curry was, while better than Ginger Hop a couple of nights before, not quite excellent, it was missing some of the nuances that can make a green curry really sing. If you want to go to a cool looking Thai restaurant this may be the place for you and people watching is also superior as Uptown always provides, but for food, I would probably go elsewhere.

I expected more out of Amazing Thailand because it is in Uptown. The spring roll was good, and the fried golden pumpkin was a unique and flavorful appetizer. The Pad Thai Shrimp was just average and more expensive than other places, which I attributed to being in Uptown. Amazing Thailand is a busy restaurant, and they have built a following in large part by offering good happy hour specials. Amazing Thailand has an amazing location, but the really amazing Asian food is on Eat Street (Nicollet Ave) or University Ave in St. Paul. |
