  • Poulourie (shared) $4.50
  • Chicken Curry $9.99

Aribel's is the reason I love what Steve and I do...finding a great little gem in an old Ponderosa building. From the charming gentleman who seemed to be the owner, server and perhaps even chef, to the mismatched decor, to the amazing food, this was one of those finds that you are just happy you get the opportunity to dine at.

We started with Poulourie which were chickpea balls deep fried, much like falafel. These were served with a great tamarind sauce. The balls them self were light, fluffy and charming. My curry was not like a Indian curry as the owner/server/chef stressed, but still I enjoyed it immensely. It was flavorful and a bit spicy. I did ask for it to be spicy, but I think he took one look at me and didn't I think I could handle really spicy food so it was only mildly spicy next time I will stress I can handle it. The dish was full of big chunks of potatoes and chicken all soaked in the flavorful sauce.

I truly hope Aribel's makes it. It is a unique find in our city, and it serves really great food.

  • Beef Pepper Pot $9.99

Where are all the people? Aribel's is too good and too fairly priced to go unnoticed this long. One other table of two diners was finishing as we arrived, and two other groups arrived as we left. That's nine people over the peak dinner time on a Saturday night.

The Poulourie was an order of thin deep fried chick pea balls, served with a tamarind dipping sauce. Before you stop reading, these were really good. The Poulourie was not too light or too heavy. It was a little bland, as it is meant to be, but the tamarind sauce adds the right amount of flavor.

The pepper pot with beef was also fantastic. I ordered it spicy, and it was appropriately spicy. According to the owner/server, the pepper pot is a traditional Guyanan dish that is cooked in molasses with beef, carrots and spices. The dish is served with a plate of rice. I can't think of another restaurant that serves these dishes in Minnesota

For good food and personalized service you won't find anywhere else, Aribel's is worth you time.
