When Beaujo's hit it hit big, when it missed, well, it missed big as well. A hit was the PEI mussels really some of the best I have had in a long while and a great variation on the normal garlic broth. Unfortunately for me the rest of the night was a miss. The sandwich was almost the same sandwich I had for lunch at Snap!, but Snap! charged $4 and Beaujo's charged $10.50 and Snap!'s was better. The chocolate torte was a below average version of the ubiquitous molten chocolate cake, but for me what just sent it over the cliff was that they used Reddi-wip for the whipped cream and I know that they did because I was sitting at the bar so I could see them. When you are charging $7.50 for a dessert which is quite high it had better not be Reddi-wip or anything that tastes like if for the whipped cream. |
I loved the Prince Edward Island Mussels at Beaujo's. They also did a nice job with the NY Strip - and they priced it right. The Beaujo's Worcestershire sauce and a poivre was a good combination. I couldn't complain about the potatoes or green beans on the side. The chocolate torte was okay, but, as Renee pointed out afterward, the Redi-wip on the side was really disappointing. The wine I had was expensive and not all that great. I would not avoid Beaujo's, but I can't recommend it either. It's hard to describe, but there seems to be a negative vibe with the place that left me feeling like I'd just witnessed a break-up or a divorce and really don't want to go back. |
