  • Roasted Pork Plate with Brasa Style Cabbage Salad and Corn Bread with Honey Butter $11.25

As you may have noticed from our new additions to the left side bar, we are now a family of three. At first we were not sure if this would be end of our restaurant reviewing hobby. We decided to forge ahead child in tow (most of the time) and not totally abandon our love of food and maybe take a different look at restaurants.

Brasa was a great way to start. We got there at 5am and were one of the only people there, by the time we left at 5:45 or so they were almost full, so it may not be a bad idea to go early. The noise level was fairly high so our little one's noisy babbling and hitting the table was not noticed too much. The food itself was great, even our 9 month old loved the corn bread and plantains. I even gave him a bit of my pork and he smiled as he gummed it.

I will bet this will be one of our regular stops for take out since we live in the NE area.

  • Braised Beef Plate with Fried Sweet Plantains and Masa Corn & Cheese Cakes $12.00

We went to Brasa as new parents, so our reviews will be changing dramatically over the next few months and years. We won’t be able to get to as many higher end restaurants, but hopefully you’ll be able to bear with us. We don’t know how this is going to work out – and if we can keep up a normal schedule, but we’re going to try for at least a while. If we continue, we will probably be updating the ratings to include a section on kid-friendly to help you decide if the restaurant is right for your family. Please let us know if you have specific suggestions along the way.

Brasa is a great little diversion in a city that can use a good slow-roasted meat restaurant with reasonable prices. We listed Brasa under BBQ even though it technically doesn’t have ribs on the menu. But we are convinced that BBQ lovers will love Brasa. I liked everything we had at Brasa and was very happy with the variety. You don’t find sweet tea in Minnesota very often, and Brasa makes a great sweet tea. The beef plate was a quarter pound of delicious, slightly spicy beef. The sides – plantains and Masa cake were reminiscent of good, down home Southern cooking. Brasa has takeout, table service, outdoor seating, and hopping music selection (like Jimi Hendrix’s bluesy “Red House”) that combine to take the edge off and provide a relaxed atmosphere. We had no problem with our little guy during early dinner hour and service was attentive and alert.
