  • Burrito De Pescado - Fish Burrito $7.29

Chiapas was one of the first Mexican restaurants on Central in NE Minneapolis. I suspect it has changed ownership several times, although I really do not know. But I do know I have been there before and one time the food was really, really bad and the second time it was mildly bad. Both times were probably five years ago.

Now, however, the food is quite good. I had the fish burrito, which I have never even seen on a menu, but since I love fish tacos, I thought I would give it a try. It was very good.

It is not worth the drive across town, but it is one of the many good choices in NE for Mexican food.

  • Enchiladas Verdes - Rolled corn tortillas filled with chicken and covered with green salsa. Served with rice and beans $8.85

We’ve been to Chiapas once before for lunch when it first opened a year or two ago. It’s a small family-type restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis, the kind of place with one person waiting on all the tables and the tables are covered in clear plastic for easy cleaning.

I was much more impressed with the restaurant at this visit. The chicken was much higher quality than last time, and the verde sauce was just right. It still isn’t worth driving across town for, and I don’t think it’s the best Mexican in the neighborhood, but I also won’t avoid it like I had after our first visit.
