  • Pescado apanado: Fried fish with beans and rice and fries $10

Cocina Latina was a wonderful little restaurant that I enjoyed very much. First the waitress was about as warm and friendly as I have experienced in sometime. Even with a child she welcomed us and seemed to be glad we were there.

The food did not disappoint either, my fish was good, the accompanying beans were amazing and the fries unnecessary, but a good version of the crinkle cut variety. Even the little side salad was tasty and fresh.

If you are in the area, I would check it out.

  • Camarones a la diabla: Spicy shrimp with beans, rice and tortillas $13.99

I really enjoyed the Camarones a la diabla, spicy shrimp with beans, rice and tortillas. The shrimp was accompanied by an amazing spicy yet not overwhelming red sauce. Something seemed out of place because the tomatoes on the side salad were a brilliant ripe red in late February. The rice was a standard Spanish rice and the refried beans were lackluster. The house hot sauce was nice and creamy, and it was very potent. Cocina Latina is good neighborhood fare.

Some other notes if you go: parking is on-street parking, but Eat Street is not as bad as Hennepin or Lyndale in Uptown. The service is warm and friendly. The atmosphere is a standard family restaurant with Latin music videos for flair. They advertise karaoke, but it’s hard to see how they set up karaoke in the space they’ve got.
