When we arrived at Confluence we were by far the youngest in the crowd. In fact an elderly couple next to us commented on that to each other and since they were hard of hearing, we also got to hear that they thought were young...which is better than many of the alternatives they could have been saying about us. But it was really funny because I don't think they had a clue we could hear them. Mojitos were the special of the night so I ordered one...not usually my drink of choice, but it seemed like a perfect night for it. And it was fabulous, truly one of the best mixed drinks I have had in sometime. My walleye scallop cake was good, a bit fishy, not terribly so, but enough to distract from the taste. My scallops were great, huge and well prepared. But the star of the night for me was the cauliflower torte that accompanied it. Really an amazing side dish. The dessert was very nice very tasty and creative. If you are in or near Prescott this is a great place to stop and have dinner. |
I really liked Confluence, although I probably ordered items that had a good chance of being good as long as the chefs took their time to get it right. The warm spinach salad was large enough and delicious. Looking back on it, the price was a little high for a salad, but the figs and the specialty bleu cheese put it over the top for me. The beef shoulder was tender, which is unusual for beef shoulder, and perfectly cooked. The portion size that I would estimate at 8 – 10 ounces was perfect. The potato fingerlings were basic, but the potato fondue was exceptional on its own or for dipping the beef shoulder. Overall, I was happy with the value for the entrée. The service was very patient and attentive. The servers appeared to be high school age, so a little unpolished, but still well trained. We arrived and we were the youngest diners by a long shot – it looked like the older set was taking advantage of an early bird special and the younger set was still partying on the St. Croix or at one of the nearby bars. The drinks were excellent. Even though this was Prescott , Wisconsin , the bartender made a couple of killer mojitos. They apparently don’t have port glasses because they poured a humongous 3 ounce glass of port. Renee drove home. It’s a long way to drive from the Twin Cities, so we probably won’t go back anytime soon. Confluence may be the best food in the Hastings/Prescott area. |
