Copper Bleu is a very popular restaurant in Lakeville. It has gotten a lot of good press and I think from our visit deservedly so. We were sat in a booth which was nice and comfy, however it was very loud, I can’t imagine what it must have been like in the middle of the restaurant. But the food was very good, especially for suburban restaurant. The interesting thing was they took the things you might find at a chain and did them really well, like the coconut shrimp, that I had for part of my entrée was great, you could tell freshly made and tasty, not the prefabbed ones you get at some places. We started with a scallop flatbread appetizer, which was creative and very tasty. I had the shrimp appetizer and the crab cake for my entrée and the crab cake was made with lots of crab and very little filler. Perfect. For dessert we had the banana cream pot, which was like a banana cream pie in a bowl. It was very good and nice ending to a very good meal. Overall, if the place were not so noisy, I would highly recommend it, but it is extraordinary noisy at least when we were there on Saturday at 8:00pm, which is the earliest reservations we could get. There were a lot of interesting people there and right next to our table was birthday party that had plenty to drink. One woman from the table came to our table and talked to us…asked how our meal was etc and kept on saying how cute I was, which of course is why I am mentioning it. As she walked away, Steve said “You know she is wasted right?” Steve’s always good for a reality check. |
Each of the items we ordered tasted excellent. These were standard versions of fairly well known dishes, but they were well executed. We were less impressed with the prices on the starters, and together with the lower degree of difficulty, the overall rating fell to good. I was very impressed with the seared scallop flatbread. These were excellent scallops, perfectly cooked, succulent, and served on a nice serving of flatbread. After we finished the starter, the wait staff took away our plates and gave us a bread basket. They were so busy; I don't think they even realized we didn't have bread plates. The Fettuccine Bolognese was outstanding. The pasta was good, but the real star was the spicy Italian sausage. All of the other ingredients blended well in this standard dish. The cheese, while good, did not stand out to me as being better or worse than many other hard cheeses that would normally top pasta, although it was definitely in the inoffensive category. The banana cream pot was much better than I expected. It was a standard banana cream pie concept with graham cracker "shards" lining the bottom of the bowl. It was a nice twist on the dessert, and the size justified the dessert price. I think many places would not be able to charge $7 for a piece of pie. One last warning: the place is loud. Do not expect a quiet, romanticdinner. Consider yourself lucky if you can hear the person across the table from you when (s)he yells. We were in a booth off to the side, and I would speculate that anyone in the middle of the room would be even worse off. The noise might be enough to keep us from going back, even if we lived in Lakeville. |
