  • Spider Scallops with a Lobster Cream Sauce $12.00 (shared)
  • Grouper Encrusted with Pistachios in Lemon Cream Sauce $25.00
  • Chocolate Souffle $8.00 (shared)

I know when I tasted the free appetizer from the kitchen of bruchetta which was perfect that this could be an excellent restaurant. Although besides ourselves there were only two other tables in this large hotel space. Once I tasted my tequila sunrise made from obviously fresh squeezed orange juice, I was 100% sure that this would be a place to return to. The bread was even good!

The spider scallops was amazing, not only did it taste good, but it was very unusual to boot. The scallops were perfectly done and the lobster cream sauce with basil oil was out of this world. One taste of the sauce was worthy of the price of the dish. I could have easily ate a bowl of it as soup with some bread. In fact, if I could only have one dish on a deserted island that would be it.

The grouper was perfectly done as well and the lemon cream sauce with cilantro oil was a very nice compliment. I was extremely jealous, however, that Steve's ravioli had the same lobster sauce as our appetizer did and he continued to flaunt it throughout the meal.

The dessert chocolate souffle was good, not quite as good as some I have had, but very nice. I know the restaurant is fairly new and is in a hotel and if I did not read the City Pages restaurant reviews religiously, I would not have known about it either, but soon if it is not packed on a Saturday night our city should be ashamed. This is indeed one of the gems.

  • Stone Crab Ravioli with Shrimp in a Lobster Cream Sauce $19.00

We enjoyed personal service at Cafe Della Vita, we were one of three tables served at prime time on a Saturday night. Our waiter told us that the restaurant was going to run an ad campaign, which is sorely needed. In my mind it is time to fish or cut bait, and I hope they fish and succeed.

The evening started with a small complimentary bruschetta: a nice touch at any restaurant. We proceeded to the excellent spider scallops. These large scallops were wrapped in angel hair pasta and deep fried. The pasta was crunchy and off set the soft delicious scallops. The lobster cream sauce accompanied the scallops, and the sauce was out of this world.

As an added bonus, the same lobster cream sauce came with the stone crab ravioli. They added a large shrimp in the middle for decoration and contrast. It was superb.

The chocolate souffle was good. It was a standard souffle and worth the money, though I would recommend trying something else should you visit this fine establishment.
