I will admit that I did not go into this with high hopes, I don't know why I think I really wasn't in the mood to go out and I tried to go there once for lunch and it was crazy busy and I had never really heard great things about it so there you go, no good reason, but not necessarily looking forward to it. But in the end I was charmed by Ike's. It had fun decorations and is the kind of place you can take about anyone and they would find something they would like on the menu and the food is no sluff they actually do a good job with what they produce. I also liked that they focus on small plates which as many of you know, I like the idea of ordering a bunch of small plates or appetizers. However in this case the waiter told me that this particular small plate was enough for a meal and I should only order it. He was right and I appreciated the advice. The lobster corn dogs were interesting, I am not sure I would order them again, but they were good. The quesadilla was plenty for a meal and it had a good smokey flavor to it, a bit too much cheese for my taste, but still good. The cheesecake was not the kind of cheesecake I like it was thick and thick which some like so if that is your kind of cheesecake go there now and order it. I am not sure I would go back, maybe for drinks and happy hour specials which look to be pretty good. |
I like Ike’s. Okay, that’s trite given its the same as Ike’s web site. But it’s true. It’s the kind of place where you wish that everyone would know your name, and if you come back often enough, I’m sure they would. I’ll keep the review short. One, don’t miss the bathrooms. Two, the blue plate specials are a good value (comes with soup or salad, the meatballs remind me of Mom’s). Three, the cheesecake is New York style, good for that type. Four, the lobster corn dogs are fun. Five, this is not haute cuisine, this is fun cuisine, have a drink and relax with some comfort food. |
