I just read Steve'e review because I wanted to see what he would say about being sat next to the celebrity reviewer. I will say that it did not annoy me quite as much as it did him. I am guessing this is because first, I had wine and he did not since it was allergy season and second, I was actually facing the table so I got a lot more entertaining experience than he did out of it. Yes they did get special treatment, but I don't think ours was that bad in comparison. I really did enjoy the food at the restaurant, I think I made the better picks and again the wine always helps attitude, in my case anyway.

  • BRAISED CALAMARI IN GINGER BLACK BEAN SAUCE $12
  • FILET MIGNON $29
  • SIGNATURE BROWN BUTTER PUDDING $8

How do I say this? We were seated next to a celebrity reviewer, and we received different treatment. I was not surprised that their table received an amuse bouche that no other table in the restaurant received (although it makes me a little sad, because anyone in the restaurant paying attention would have noticed). I was surprised by something else. Our waiter gave his recommendations for two starters, one salad, and two entrees. He gave different recommendations to the other table - one different starter, a different salad, and one different entree. I'm assuming that the other table received their best server, so this is even more surprising. I really don't know what to make of it.

The food was good, but not knock-off-your-socks good. The braised calamari in ginger black bean sauce was good, and it came in a generous portion. The 8 ounce filet mignon was perfectly medium rare. I really enjoyed the cut and the flavor. The yellow squash and tomato confit could have taken it over the top, but they did not add much pizzazz. The signature brown butter pudding of chocolate caramel, whipped cream, and citron salt, was also decent, but not drive-out-of-your-way good.

Parking is available off Snelling and in the small lot in back. The noise level is very high, and I probably wouldn't go back because I was really looking forward to a relatively quiet, kid-free dinner. Service was good, but I felt patronized at times. And I still can't get over the different treatment.
