Joey D's is a great place to have in the neighborhood when you are craving that less than healthy meal. They had a nice clean store with good food. I have had better Chili Dogs, but this one was fine and fulfilled that appetite for the next year or so. The onion rings were good, but I thought for the amount they were not quite worth the value. The fries that Steve had were a much better value and with out the cheese sauce they were quite good. I don't think Joey D's is worth a trip across town, but if you are in the area and craving the hot dog/italian beef type of meal, I would stop in. |
Joey D's was a mixed bag to me. While I had an excellent Italian beef sandwich, the cheese fries made me wonder why I didn't order the regular made-to-order fries. They would have been much better without the drab nacho cheese that drowned them. The Italian beef sandwich was juicy and had the right spices, hot peppers, carrots, and cauliflower. My only complaint, albeit minor, is that the bread could have been a little fresher and possibly more flavorful. The restaurant was as clean as mentioned on another web posting board. It helps that the dining area is lit by bright fluorescent lights. It helps further that the staff frequently visits the dining area to clean up, wiping up tables and taking trays when possible. Three times a different staff member asked if everything was okay, a rarity in an otherwise fast food restaurant layout. The staff came across as very friendly. I would not drive across town to go Joey D's, but might go there occasionally if I lived in the area. Joey D's is a good local joint for hot dogs, fries, and sandwiches. Finally, I was surprised to see the shrine of Chicago sports memorabilia to the Bears, Bulls, and Cubs, but no sign of the recent triumph of the World Series champion White Sox. Or was I? |
