  • Roasted Vegetable Gnocchi With Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto $13.00


I really do not have much to say about the Loring Grill, it was not bad, but my dish was not good either. Actually I felt it was a good value, you got a big plate of gnocchi with lots of vegetables really enough for two. However, the taste more toward fair, the gnocchi were gummy and the pesto and vegetables were ok.

If I were back in the area and looking for something to eat, I would head to my still favorite restaurant in that area, Joe's Garage.


  • Beef Medallions With Garlic-Red Pepper Mashed Potatoes and Haricot Verts $15.00

The Loring Grill stands between Joe’s Garage and Café Lurcat, literally and figuratively. With decent beef medallions, a semi-formal space, and a half price wine night on Monday through Wednesday, they go after the Café Lurcat clientele. But with burgers and pizza on the menu and bargain prices for Loring Park, they go after the Joe’s Garage clientele. In my mind, if I’m going to the Loring area, I want one or the other, not a little of both. But the food and service are good enough that I hope they make it; I suspect they will do quite well in the summer when they attract overflow crowds from Joe’s and Lurcat.

The beef medallions were not the best cut of meat, a little tough and chewy, but for this price I was expecting a lesser cut. They were well done, which didn’t help the consistency. They were accompanied by some decent garlic mashed red potatoes (better than the following weekend’s offering at Rudolph’s) and some excellent haricots verts (beans, that is, green vitamin D). The best part was the price; they knew to charge a reasonable price and to offer a half price wine with entrée from Monday through Wednesday.
