I have always preferred Arby's of the fast food chains. So imagine my shock when I went to Mavericks and realized that I had not been there in my 14 years living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area even though I have driven by it many, many times.

I am glad I have finally gone and while I rarely go to fast food chains anymore for a number of reasons: the movie Super Size Me, I am getting older and can not eat all those empty calories and I am getting older and have refined my tastes a bit, I will come back here when I am in the mood for Arby's.

In addition there is a place called Bubble Tea Cafe right across the street, that serves great bubble tea. Roast Beef and bubble tea--really can you get any more weird than that, no, but try it you might like it.

How we haven’t been to Maverick’s yet is a mystery to me. We’ve been to the area dozens of times, yet we’ve always ended up somewhere else. Now, Maverick’s will be near the top of the list of where to go for a great sandwich.

Maverick’s is what I imagine a large roast beef sandwich chain would be like if it were a single owner-operated location. It’s a smaller, no-frills, good, friendly, fast, direct, business-like, straightforward restaurant. It’s all about the sandwich and made-to-order fries. This is the only place I know of with horseradish set out as a condiment alongside horsey sauce, honey barbecue sauce, tangy barbecue sauce, fresh onions, mustard, and pickles. You can really do it up right at Maverick’s.

That’s about all you need to know, and it’s enough to encourage me to look for more neighborhood sandwich shops.
