I love the new NeHe neighborhood and all the fun restaurants that have been attracted to it. It is fun, vibrant and quickly becoming the happening spot in the city.

Oddfellows fits right in. I was highly impressed with Oddfellows. It is a very small space behind the Boom nightclub. So it fills up quickly and pays to make a reservation. We as usual had an early dinner 5:30 so when we arrived we were the first there, but by the time we left I don't think there were any tables left.

The appetizer was a great combination of flavors and textures. The tuna was also very good. I don't usually care for tuna that much, I would rather have something else normally, but I was in the mood for fish and that was the fish they had on the menu. It is a very small menu with only a few choices, but please don't let this scare you away, because like me you may be pleasantly surprised with what you get. The Blueberry Pie was a disappointment. The waiter even mentioned that the desserts are not the highlight of their restaurant. Well I say go find a pastry chef or a good source for your desserts, because really that was the only thing holding you back from and excellent rating with us.

One of the reasons we were able to have desserts is because the portions were small enough that even after eating a couple of courses you were not stuffed. Which is great, I am more than willing to pay a bit extra for great flavors and high quality ingredients. I really wish more people were as well.

  • Pork Tenderloin with Mash Potatoes and Grilled Asparagus $18.00
  • Blueberry Pie with Strawberry Ice Cream $6.00

Oddfellows is one of those places you like to go to every few months just to see what’s new on the menu. Maybe I should start a list of such restaurants, because there are several good restaurants like this that change their menu regularly and always seem to have something tasty.

The appetizer tasted excellent, but it seemed expensive for what was served. That must be the price for a unique appetizer alternative.

My pork tenderloin was perfectly done, juicy, tender. It was everything you could ask for from a pork tenderloin. It was set on a bed of mashed potatoes, a soft, fluffy bed. Strangely enough, that night, the star was the grilled asparagus. It was fresh and in season, I had a craving for fresh vegetables, and the asparagus fit the bill.

We were both less-than-impressed with the desserts, which hurt the overall rating. I would still put this on the better side of good. If they keep working at it, they will be an excellent restaurant. With their good location in a trendy neighborhood, I only hope they don’t rest on their laurels and milk the profits.
