This is one of the more celebrated Chinese restaurants in our city. This makes it difficult when you are going there one time to rate it. I am sure if I had been a little more adventurous on my visit, I would have been well rewarded. But I was not. I chose the Scallop with Sizzling Rice. It was good, but I wasn't all that impressed with the sauce which was overwhelming. The fried dumplings were good, but nothing special. I might go again simply because I am curious about some of their more interesting dishes.

• Beef Gai Lan $11

Rainbow Chinese Restaurant is one of the restaurants everyone raves about, and it is always listed in the top five Twin Cities Chinese Restaurants in readers polls. My opinion, though, is that Rainbow is a very good Chinese restaurant if you are in the area. And, it is also my opinion that the trendy decor and Nicollet Avenue location boost the rating in the opinion polls.

That said, my meal was good. I would recommend the Beef and Gai Lan (soft noodles was my choice) to anyone. The food was good enough and the portions large enough to eat about half and take the rest home for leftovers. My only regret is forgetting, once again, the leftovers in the car overnight.
