Social House was a beautiful restaurant, but the beauty may have been skin deep. I had the social house shrimp which were actually very good, but my veggie roll was just ok. The chocolate cake for dessert, while our four year loved it, I did not. Nothing was wrong with it really, but it was not inspired. We went for happy hour so all of our food and drink were half prices so that helped me like it more. If I had paid full price, I would have been even more disappointed.
From all appearances, Social House is a night spot in Uptown Minneapolis that also serves dinner/small plates and sushi. The decor is beautiful, the servers are beautiful, and the patrons are beautiful. We visited for the food, not the night life. The server did not seem happy that we brought our son, because this is not meant to be a family restaurant.
The small plate that I had was pretty good - I was happy with the Nori crusted sirloin, but it was nothing really special. The six ounce sirloin is pan seared and finished with ponzu and scallions. The beef was nicely done and nicely sized, but the nori crust did not add much flavor. The spicy tuna sushi roll included spicy tuna mix, avocado, cucumber and leaf lettuce. To my taste, the spicy tuna roll wasn't really spicy. Each of these might have been better with one of their signature cocktails, but I was not drinking when we visited. There are better Japanese restaurants in town, but this could be good at the right time with the right people.
