Our last poor restaurant was Spill the Wine back in January and actually Trygs reminded me a a lot of that experience. Tryg's was a nice welcoming place and I really like the decor and the almost all booth seating.

But when it comes to food and service it just does not measure up. The crab cake was adequate at best. My scallops and risotto was a bit expensive for the amount of scallops and the tastelessness of the risotto. I am not sure why we even ordered the cheese plate, but while big it was not quality cheeses and not worth ordering.

The service was slow and uneven and was really what it put if over the edge from the fair to poor category. I will let Steve rant about the rounding up on the bill, but that is simply a bad business practice and didn't help the review at all.

  • Sauteed Pork Tenderloin - Rolled with Spinach and Mozzarella, Whipped Potatoes, Orange Red Pepper Couli $17

Why am I so angry over $0.04? I hated the crab cakes. The mushed potatoes accompanying the pork tenderloin were awful. The pork tenderloin itself was okay but overpriced. After we got home, Renee said the cheese plate “blew chunks of crappy ass cheese.” Calling it artisan cheese is an insult to artisans. The server disappeared for a long period of time when we were ready to leave. Yet, I am most upset about $0.04.

The restaurant computer system totaled all the items to $88.00 and added $6.96 in sales tax, then rounded up to $95.00. We were only taken for $0.04, but the next table was probably hit for $0.44 or $0.84. Multiply that by hundreds or thousands of bills per year and they make a tidy sum by overcharging guests. If anyone wants to argue that this makes it easier for people to pay their bill, I would respond that I can add just fine, thank you very much, and I don’t need a merchant rounding up for me. With so many good restaurants in Uptown, we will skip Tryg’s.
