A beautiful new coffee shop in the popular NE Hennepin neighborhood. I was impressed with a few things, first the decor, second they had bubble tea, third they had all kinds of fun non coffee shop drinks, fourth the food was good. It is hard if you are in the neighborhood to choose between all the great restaurants, Pizza Nea, Bobino, Oddfellows, Kamarcek's, etc, but if you are in the mood a coffee shop with fun drinks, fun atmosphere, and good food, this would be the place to go. |
What? A restaurant of the week on a Wednesday? What’s going on? Are we trying to pad our stats? No, we just used this as a chance to get to a new restaurant before the Lenny Kravitz concert. If I can speak frankly, the whole concert scene made me feel old, even if it was a middle-aged crowd. Nikka Costa and Lenny Kravitz were awesome, but I’m getting a little old for the ear-ringing, up on your feet for hours experience. But enough about me, what about Wilde Roast Cafe? The place is an order at the counter, bring food to the table setting with a full menu, coffee drinks, tea, and assorted beverages. Oh, and it’s very gay, so wear black. The best part was when I overheard a conversation at the next table. The gentleman said he fell asleep on the couch after watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Now, I love Audrey Hepburn movies as much as the next guy… wait, maybe I should stop while I’m ahead. Okay, okay, okay. Wilde Roast Cafe was incredibly busy for a Wednesday night. It’s tough to find a place to sit. It’s a real scene. I can recommend the crab cakes. There were flaky, large pieces of crab with two good dipping sauces. A little pricey, so you might want to go with a different appetizer. But, you can make it up on your entrée! It was under $10 for a nice dish of Italian sausage lasagna with good flavor. This is a find. Nothing outstanding or innovative, just standard fare, and good people watching (and eavesdropping). |
